Why Billie Tyler Hates Bricks -- will anyone listen?

MY STORY ON THE BRICKS
by Billie Tyler, who lives at Symphony Towers on Massachusetts Avenue, right around the corner from the bricks on Huntington Avenue. She moved into Symphony Towers about two years ago and experienced the new bricks firsthand. She uses a power wheelchair for mobility.
I shop a lot at Stop & Shop in Brigham Circle.
I go early in the mornings, as to miss the crowds. I don't mind going up on the bus -- it's quicker. but coming home I run into crowds of people going to work or school.
I would rather come home on my own but once I hit the bricks at Parker Street and Huntington Avenue my bladder won't hold! I even have trouble if I take the bus home and get off at Gainsborough Street -- in that short block my bladder starts working and sometimes I don't make it. So I go up Gainsborough to St. Botolph St. and home, long but safer.
What I would say to people coming to this event?
Help us get rid of this brick, please!
If the sidewalk were totally smooth?
It would be like living in another world.

Hi Billie and others -
Thanks for publishing here. I found out about this through WalkBoston.org. I am able bodied and angry about brick sidewalks (and similar decisions), but I missed the Oct 15th event. Question for the group: are there any special ways that non-wheelchair folk can continue to help NAG, as you go forward?
Thanks!

Hello Sharon,
First, thank you so much for writing. There will be another event this Saturday (last week's was thoroughly rained out). We will be gathering from 12-2 p.m. at the corner of the MFA at Forsyth Way, along Huntington Avenue, and if you would like a Free NAG brunch at Au Bon Pain in the Marino Center, please come to the corner of Forsyth Street and Huntington Avenue at 11 a.m.
Brick sidewalks and other access issues are for everyone, just like all civil rights issues. Everyone is welcome.
And if you would like to make a donation, we would appreciate that too!
Make check payable to BCIL and mail to:
